Medical use of accelerators in Norway

(Oslo, Friday 5.9)


During the period 20.8 - 15.9 the CERN Exhibition "Hadrons for Health" will visit the University of Oslo.

As a part of the exhibition there will be held open presentations Friday 5.9 in the morning. The planned Norwegian activity within diagnosis, treatment and medical research based on accelerator produced radionuclides will be discussed. In particular it will be focused on isotope production for PET and of radio-nuclides for diagnosis and therapy.

Friday 5.9 :

  • 09:00-09:30 Introduction - Ø.Bruland (medical), A.Skretting (technology), S.Messelt (accelerators)
  • 09:30-10:00 Applications of PET in Oncology - Magne Aas
  • 10:00-10:30 Applications of PET in Neurology and Cardiology - Kjell Rootwelt
  • 10:30-11:30 Targeted radiotherapy with alpha-emitting agents - M.Zalutsky

In the afternoon the same day two presentations will discuss new methods within cancer therapy using hadrons.

  • 13:00-14.00 Cancer therapy with light ions - Gerhard Kraft
  • 14:00-15:00 The TERA-project (Therapy with hadrons) - Ugo Amaldi
  • 15:00-15.30 Closing remarks

The open presentation will take place at Helga Engs Hus, University of Oslo Friday 5.9 at 9:00-15:00. Everybody is welcome.
