CERN

CERN is an international laboratory where the W and Z bosons were discovered. The gluon was discovered at DESY. CERN is the birthplace of the World-Wide Web. The Large Hadron Collider (see below) will search for Higgs bosons and other new fundamental particles and forces.

Question:Why is the LEP ring so large compared to the SpS if they both are used to make Z's?

Answer: The LEP needs to be larger because electrons radiate more than protons do at the same energy when accelerated around a circle. The larger circle alleviates this.
