Materials from the Contemporary Physics Education Project (CPEP)
What is the world made of and what holds it together?
These questions are answered in the following materials:
New 1995 Chart of Fundamental Particles
and Interactions --- including the newly discovered top quark!
More than 100,000 copies of the previous editions have been distributed.
The chart, software, and classroom activity
packet can be ordered.
- A full color chart
about the world of particles such as quarks, gluons, and neutrinos
and about the fundamental forces. Available in three sizes.
The chart is described in Science magazine, vol. 252, 3 May 1991,
page 648.
- Enlargements of the components
of the chart plus the accompanying text are available here.
Software
- Software that uses attention-getting graphics to illustrate
key concepts of the chart. In addition, it introduces the
accelerators and detectors that particle physicists use to learn about
fundamental particles and forces. Similar to the Particle Adventure
with sound and more animation.
Order.
Packet of classroom activities with worksheets
- Describes the concepts of the chart, their history, and
the design and use of particle accelerators and detectors.
This packet brings particle physics to the classroom with
meaningful activities.
Order.
Book
- A book for high school teachers and college students will
be available in 1996.
Multimedia program
- A project to create a state-of-the-art multimedia CD-ROM program on
particle physics has received initial funding and is in the
early stages of development.
Workshops
- Workshops for teachers are conducted at various sites in the US.
