The figures below (red curves) show the observed UV index and cloud modification factor (CMF) measured with our GUV-511 instrument. The figures are normally updated every 30 minute throughout the day. The UV index is a measure of the intensity of solar UV radiation, whereas the cloud modification factor reflects the effect of cloud cover on UV radiation. A cloud modification factor of 100% represents clear sky conditions. 70% cloud modification gives an UV index 70% of the clear sky value. The blue curve labeled "clear sky" is based on modeled UV index at clear sky conditions and seasonal averaged ozone values over Oslo. The figure below shows this year's day-by-day UV index at noon. As a comparison it can be noted that the UV index at the Canari Islands is around 11 in June and 3-4 in December. At 40 degrees latitude (Mediterranean) the UV index is around 9 in June.
