The airport for Oslo is
called Oslo Airport Gardermoen
(OSL).
There are two other airports which are sometimes
called Oslo, namely Rygge and Torp
(see below), but they are much
further away from Oslo than the Gardermoen airport.
They are used by low-cost carriers, but they are only
recommended if you are very short on money because of the long
travelling times to and from the airport.
When you left the customs area at OSL airport, you should turn
right and walk down to the end of the hall until you reach the
stairs to the Flytoget
(airport express train).
The train takes you to Oslo Sentralstasjon (or Oslo
S) in about 25 minutes.
It costs 160 NOK.
You are obliged to buy a ticket before boarding
these trains — it is not possible to buy tickets on board.
Tickets may be bought by swiping a credit card, at the
distribution machines or at the NSB counters.
The Torp airport is serviced,
e.g., by Ryanair,
widerøe,
and wizz air.
From Torp, the company
Torpekspressen
offers buses to the Oslo Central bus station (Oslo
Bussterminalen) which is in walking distance (5 minutes)
from the central train station.
They ride takes about 1:45h and cost about 260 NOK for a
return ticket.
Cash withdrawal is available in the airport check-in hall.
From Rygge airport, there are
buses run
by
Rygge-Expressen and
by TIMEkspressen.
Rygge airport also has a train connection, see
here.
The workshop will take place at the Department of Physics,
University of Oslo, Blindern.
The sessions will be held in Helga Engs building in
Auditorium 1/2 (see the map).
Signs will be put up from the entrance hall of the building.
Some relevant maps:
From Hotel to the Workshop
There are two ways to get to Blindern from either
Thon Hotel Gyldenløve
or
Cochs Pensjonat:
-
Either walk or take the tram up Bogstadveien to Majorstuen
(recommended for Thon Hotel Gyldenløve).
From there, go across the big road intersection and continue
in the same direction until you see a football field on your
right.
You will then also see the Physics Building on the top of a
hill behind the football field.
Walk past the field and follow the roads up the hill.
This takes about 30 minutes if you walk and 20 minutes if you
take the tram.
-
Or you can walk down to Nasjonaltheatret subway
station in the city center, which takes about 10 minutes
from Cochs Pensjonat.
From there take the westbound subway, either line 3
(Sognsvann), 4 (Ringen) or 5 (Storo).
Get off at Blindern station.
Go up the hill on the right-hand side of the subway (the stop
is outdoors), and you reach the university campus.
The whole journey takes about 30 minutes.
Also see the
map where hotels, stations,
and the workshop location are indicated.
