The Dark Matter Revolution

Copernicus' observation that the Earth is not the center of the solar system (or universe) was a real revolution.

Now we have evidence that the Earth is not even made out of the same type of matter as the majority of the universe.

From gravitational effects, we can infer the existence of "dark matter", that is matter that we cannot see. There is extensive circumstantial evidence that much of this is not made up of protons, neutrons, and electrons, as we are.

Dark Matter Not Dark Matter

We don't know whether the dark matter is composed of neutrinos or even more exotic forms of matter hypothesized by theorists.

This path is complete. You may go to the experimental evidence path and explore there or go to the main chart page. You may also want to return to the instructions.
