Strong Interaction
The strong force holds quarks together to form
hadrons;
its carrier particles are whimsically called gluons
because they so successfully "glue" the quarks together.
Like the electromagnetic force acts on particles with electric charge,
the strong force acts
on particles with something called
color charge. Only
quarks and the gluons themselves have color charge.
